SUBANG JAYA: Some Aidilfitri cheer came yesterday for 20 families at low-cost Angsana flats in USJ1 here - mainly for single mothers, orphans and the disabled - with each receiving RM100 vouchers from Mydin Hypermarket.

The initiative was jointly led by Subang Jaya assemblyman Hannah Yeoh, together with the USJ1 mosque committee.

"We hope the donations will provide some comfort during Ramadan and Hari Raya Puasa festivities," said Yeoh, who was in baju kurung and scarve.

"Hopefully, they can now buy some new clothes for their children as well as groceries."

Subang Jaya Municipal councillor Roslan Shahir Datuk Mohd Shahir, who is also a committee member of the mosque, donated his one-month allowance to the families and 15 orphans from the Angsana flats.

"The mosque committee donated RM100 to each family and RM30 to orphans. They were chosen on the basis of their family income, of RM1,500 and below," he said.

One Angsana flat resident, Norhami Kasim, 47, said the donation enabled her to buy new clothes at Mydin for her six children.

"They're the ones who could do with new clothes for Hari Raya, especially my youngest who is 11 years old," said Norhami, who works as a nanny for a pair of twins over the past three years.

"I also have siblings who help us out financially from time to time. All this have made life bearable for us."

Ramadan allocation for mosques and suraus in DUN Subang Jaya

Posted: 06 Sep 2010 11:02 PM PDT

In 2008, I allocated RM2000 each for mosques and suraus in DUN Subang Jaya.

In 2009, I allocated RM2000 for each masjid and RM1000 for each surau in my constituency. You can read more about it here.

In 2010,  I have again set aside RM2000 for each masjid and RM1000 for each surau for Ramadan. This year, a total of 6 mosques and 16 suraus received their cheques in the first week of Ramadan.

It is the duty of very elected representative to look after the welfare of all, regardless of race and religion.
