KL City Hall must use RM734 million development expenditure for 2011 effectively

Posted: 20 Dec 2010 12:08 AM PST

DAP National Deputy Chairman and MP for Kepong Dr Tan Seng Giaw calls on the Kuala Lumpur Datuk Bandar to help speed up the implementation of the bridge project at Taman Emas-Metro Prima, Kepong. This bridge crosses the Keroh River.

The bridge project will cost over RM1 million. In 2011, the total Kuala Lumpur City Hall development budget is RM734 million. The allocations must be used meaningfully, completing the projects in time, such as RM253.75 million for road development in KL.

Dr Tan issues the statement on 19.12.2010. He had a discussion with the Datuk Bandar and the Director of Public Works Department at the City Hall, Kuala Lumpur, on 17.12.2010.

Over five months ago, a bridge linking Taman Emas with Taman Metro Prima, 7 1/2 mile Kepong, collapsed after heavy rains. KL City Hall (KLCH) has found out that the bridge was not built by any government department. In fact, there was a bridge over 10 years ago. This collapsed. It was replaced by a bridge, probably by the developer. But, there was no piling for this bridge. So, recently, the second bridge can no longer be used by vehicles.

As the Director of the Public Works Department, KLCH, has said, the department has just got the money of over RM 1 million to build a new bridge with proper piling and design. From the KLCH budget for 2011 of RM2.007 billion, RM734 million will be for development.

During the discussion with the Datuk Bandar and the Director, I stressed the urgency of building the bridge. I hope that both will help to speed up the implementation of the project.

Dr Tan Seng Giaw
